Our cat considers himself to be a great hunter and usually brings us all kinds of poor little baby animals to take care of. This year, thankfully, this guy is the first (and, hopefully, the last) of our visitors. He's got a little knick on top of his head that looks superficial. But , then he's got a little bit of roughing up just behind his neck, too. I wanted him to calm down before I checked him out any further, so he's in the bathtub, in a big box with lots of rags to bury himeslf into.
I think he'll make it and, by the size of him, he'll probably be ready to head off on his own pretty soon! As a teenager, I worked for wild animal rehabilitation center. (Yeah, that always gets me - what am I rehabilitating them from? Drugs, alcohol?) Anyway, I've been lucky enough to gain enough experience to know how to handle the majority of the mammals, birds, and - yikes! - even reptiles that may need help.
Now, who could turn down helping out this poor little guy who's lost his mommy and gotten beaten up by a big, bullying cat?! |

Holy Crap!!! I thought it was bad when our cats bring in the occasional bird or mouse. That thing is almost as big as a cat. I would have been standing on a chair screaming bloody murder.
My hubby says, "Good Kitty,"
omg...i would honestly freak out if I had a cat that brought that into the house...but at least you have animal handling experience =)
Awww... so sweet. We saw an abandoned baby possum at our local rehab center. They told the kids that in general most moms come back to pick up lost babies but possums don't! I was shocked to find that out.
Glad this little fella has you to help him get back on his feet.
When I was younger, I had an outdoor cat that brought in snakes and birds and the odd chipmunk here and there...but now we just have two indoor cats (although one thinks he is an outdoor cat).
How did the "rehabilitation" go? Is he back out with the other opossums gone wild?

Yep! We kept him for a couple of days. He merely had a couple of flesh wounds, which healed up nicely. We let him go after I looked things up and found he was old enough to be on his own - which is probably how the cat got a hold of him in the first place!
