OK.. I need some help here. You see, I haven't worn my wedding ring since Little Guy was a couple of days old. I don't know WHAT I was thinking when I picked it out... it's huge and sparkly. Not really "me", you know? Beside that, there is a lovely "certified" CZ stone in the center that was catching on everything and scratched my tiny newborn. The ring was banished to a drawer and forgotten about.
But now that he's bigger, I've realized that maybe I should start wearing it again. The thing is, I don't like it at all. We were married in the court house, so it's not like it was blessed for our marriage or anything. Hubby and I talked it over and decided that I should get a new ring - one that fits my style and all of the busy things my hands do all day. Below, there are five rings I found on Etsy that fit our budget (can you say, "What budget?!") They're not really traditional wedding-type rings, but I like them a lot. It was not easy finding these - I have arthritis creeping in, so my knuckle is a full size larger than my finger where the ring will rest. Plus, I have skeleton hands - to fit the ring over said knuckle, I need a size 5 - that means my finger is a size 4!
I'd love it if you could give me some feedback on these. I really love the Textile Ring, but I can't help but wonder if the fibers will last a long time. I convo'd (LOL - is that how you write it???) the shop owner to ask. I also like the Ebony Wood Ring, but have asked the shop owner if it'll last as a ring I wear all of the time and never take off - dishes, showers, baking, etc. can take their toll on something like this!
I had to pick the ebony. I love wood... If it doesn't last (it should last quite a while I think....) you can replace it with one just like it. It's the thought that counts, right. Although, if you want a true keepsake to pass down. Get silver. It will absorb your energy, love and light and your son may be able to give it to his wife someday or just have it to remember you by. Good luck!!!
Oh man, I can only choose one! I love your choices, my favorites are the turquoise, and the textile. I could definitely see how the fibers wearing out might become a problem on the textile though, so I think I'd go for turquoise... that's what I voted for (=
I love the silver one. I recently gave my substitute ring to my 13 yo. I too, have arthritis in my hands so now I am wearing the claddagh ring I gave dh when we were dating. I had a spacer put in it so I can take it out on those days my hands swell.
i like the ebony rings because it will go with anything. It is simple and it is beautiful. My husband and i also got married at the justice of the peace almost Didnt happen because the needed two witnesses which we Didnt have.We have been married for 10 years . I have a gold basic band that we got from Kmart or Meier's or something but i do remember it was like 25.00. and he got one too. I think simple is better than those 2,000.00 -? rings but it is personal choice.
Ahhh! Have I mentioned my hubby and I have/had wooden wedding rings. He chose them and proposed with them already made (and ironically the engagmement ring was just a 'stone' then as I then got taken to a fancy designer for them to make one especially for me - awww!...) Anyway, he got the rings made out of the (eco-harvested) wood from our favourite trees. But... beautiful as that all sounds, there are flaws. Now, five years later, his ring has chipped (a bit fell right off - they are way more fragile than metal, for sure) and I have lost mine. And they are - alas - easy to misplace as, being wood, you have to take them off a lot, like when you do the dishes or take a bath or in our cases do kung fu or drum... so one day I didn't re-find mine, it was just gone.
So our five year anniversary is coming up and we were thinking of re-doing them... but got to say I may have just fallen in love with the vintage silver one (along with everyone else, it would seem). which one did you go for in the end?
@Loving Earth Mama I went for the vintage silver one! I am so happy with the decision - it's so pretty without being ostentatious. I was slightly worried about all of the holes getting filled with gunk, as I love baking, but a quick once-over with the brush I use on the dishes and it's clean.
Etsy is full of beautiful rings. It took me a very long time to narrow my choices down to the ones in this post.
I really appreciate that you've shared your experience with the wooden rings. I don't think I'd have remembered to take mine off every time I did dishes, took a shower, etc. They're beautiful, but I really needed something that didn't need much care, too.

IF the ebony wood ring will hold up, then I'd change my vote to that. I totally do not think the textile ring would last that sort of abuse at all.
So aside from these, I chose the Vintage Sterling Ring (as did several others, I see!). It is definitely my favorite!

Thanks for the thinking space.
